The story
of our social .
Before smartphones and social media, connection was real, face-to-face, and effortlessly fun. We’d gather outside for games like umgusha, hide and seek, or marathon rounds of hopscotch. After school, we’d race home to watch YoTV or The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, while munching on NikNaks or eating Chappies bubblegum.
The thrill of swapping Ama ali or battling it out on a Sega console was how we made friends, and our music came from Walkmans, blasting Brenda Fassie’s Vulindlela or 2Pac on cassette
tapes.
Ice cream trucks were a highlight, with the sound of the jingle signaling a rush to grab Push Pops and Fizzer sticks. We didn’t need much – a ball, a few friends, and the day felt complete. Saturdays were for watching The Lion King or Matilda for the hundredth time, while Sunday afternoons meant bike rides and skates with friends.
At Friends in the Making, we’re bringing that back. We’re recreating those carefree moments when building friendships was easy, fun, and natural. Through nostalgic games, playful competitions, and real conversations, we’re giving people a chance to relive that joy and make new connections. This is more than an event – it’s a trip back to the best days of being a kid.
